Heuchera (Mar 21, 2008)

They keep coming out with new colorful varieties of these native wildflowers every week. We grow these for the spectacular colored foliage, but the flowers last a longtime in flower arrangements and are attractive to hummingbirds. Heucheras make great additions in mixed borders and in containers. The colored leaves go great in all sorts of combinations. One quick tip: Cut off any stems that have become bare at the bottom with leaves only at the top in mid-March. Keep them well watered and fed and they'll grow back good as new in a matter of weeks. Stick the bare stem that you cut off into soil in a shady moist spot and chances are it'll root and make you a brand new plant.
